Talismouse - Pirate Edition

Some time ago we posted on our Disney-based variant of the classic Talisman fantasy board game. From our recent trip to Disneyland we came back with the PVC figure sets for Mickey vs. the Disney Villains (which is basically a Fantasmic playset and they might as well brand it as that, frankly) and the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. That in turn has given us the opportunity to add a few swashbuckling characters to our repertoire.

From Peter Pan...

Pirates of the Caribbean, the ride...

And finally, a new ending in which I gave the Thieves' Guild alternate ending a cosmetic makeover as the Pirates League. Much like the actual attraction at Walt Disney World, now that I think about it...

Jam-packed with pirates!
As a side note, I was very excited to see a figure set based on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It was a nice change to see merchandise for the ride that has nothing to do with the movies, and it bodes well for seeing sets based on other attractions like Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain. I'm really hoping they continue the line!

  1. I mainly just wanted to comment on this:

    "Mickey vs. the Disney Villains (which is basically a Fantasmic playset and they might as well brand it as that, frankly)"

    That is exactly why I not only picked up that set, but hung onto it when I decided to sell the rest of my Disney PVC figures.

    I'm also delighted about the release of the PotC set and plan to pick it up the next time I visit the park. Disneyland is a very special thing and deserves affordable memorabilia that speaks directly of the park rather than filtering everything through movie tie-ins.

    1. Amen to that!

      I was also surprised by the quality of the figures. They're right up there with the quality of the most recent Disney Store figures.

      I don't want to jinx it, but I've really hoping for Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain (which would be a de facto Song of the South set), and Country Bear Jamboree. Enchanted Tiki Room would probably be expecting too much, but I wouldn't turn down a Jungle Cruise set either.

    2. Those all sound lovely, and thank you for giving me the perfect idea for my next blog post! (Hey...after an entire year of weekly posting, I was starting to run out of material.)

      Incidentally, I was cleaning up my Disney swag shelf the other day, and I found another PVC set of "Disney Theme Park Icons." Each one is a character mounted on a little thematic base with the attraction name/sign. It includes:
      * Enchanted Tiki Room--a parrot (colored slightly like Michael) and a Tiki totem pole
      * "it's a small world"--Mexican boy
      * Splash Mountain--Brer Rabbit
      * Imagination Institute--Figment
      * Matterhorn--Harold the Yeti
      * Country Bear Jamboree--Big Al
      * Pirates of the Caribbean--pirate skeleton and treasure chest
      * Haunted Mansion--Ezra.

      So there is precedent here. Let's all make sure to snap up whatever we find and encourage them!

      ...except maybe those "Attractionista" dolls. Those are a little too abstract.

    3. I've seen photos of that theme park icon set, and lamented that I had never had a chance to buy it firsthand.

  2. I am in a group that plays Talisman monthly, and one of the players ran across your custom cards. I'd like to print a set out for an upcoming game. From the images it looks like Strange Eons 3 was used to make them. If you did use Strange Eons would it possible to post a link to the project file? Would make printing them out easier, Thank you!!

    1. I don't know the name of the template or anything... I think I got it from Talisman Island. All I have for them are the JPGs, which I uploaded here. If you're interested, shoot me an e-mail via my Blogger profile and I can send them to you.
